Kristin E. Rojas, M.D. is a Society of Surgical Oncology fellowship-trained breast
surgical oncologist and gynecologic surgeon with a passion for comprehensive wellness in women’s cancer care.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas and later graduated from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. During her training at Brown University/Women & Infants’ Hospital in Rhode Island, she was awarded the American College of Surgeons Research Presentation Award for her work comparing sexual function outcomes after nipple and skin-sparing mastectomy. Her passion for education was also recognized with several resident teaching awards.
As an attending surgeon, Dr. Rojas designed and implemented opioid-sparing protocols for breast surgery patients undergoing both lumpectomy and mastectomy. She is helping to fight the opioid crisis by minimizing the need superfluous narcotic prescriptions at discharge and using novel non-opioid
alternatives to treating pain before, during, and after breast surgery. In 2019, she received Rudolph Nissen Research Award, and her work has been published in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Annals of Surgical
Oncology, and The American Journal of Surgery, among others.
Her research interests also focus on cancer survivorship and sexual health during and after breast and gynecologic cancer treatment, along with pregnancy-associated breast cancer. She is the Founder of the Menopause, Urogenital, Sexual Health and Intimacy (MUSIC) Program, a program for women experiencing sexual dysfunction after
cancer treatment, now known as the OASIS (Onco-menopause and Intimacy Specialists) Program.
She continues her academic breast surgery practice with a focus on sexual health and improving survivorship for women with a history of any type of cancer.
